PeekCards Privacy Policy
How PeekCards handles your data on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
In short
PeekCards has no account, no ads and no tracking. Your pages, cards, recordings and study history stay on your device, and in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. The app sends anonymous usage data to Google Analytics for Firebase so we can see which features are used and what to improve. It is not linked to you and never contains your pages or cards. If you choose to send us a short note, such as a mistake you found in a deck, the words you type go with it.
Data we collect
PeekCards uses Google Analytics for Firebase, a service by Google, to collect anonymous usage data. It is not linked to your identity: there is no account and the app never sets a user ID. It is not used for advertising, and not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- App activity: events such as finishing the introduction, finishing a study session, using a feature such as scanning or importing, adding or downloading a ready deck, seeing or closing the Plus offer, starting a trial, and completing or cancelling a purchase, with fixed values such as the feature name, the plan or which ready deck it was.
- Identifier: a random app instance ID that Firebase creates for this installation. It is reset when you delete the app.
- Device and approximate location: the device model, the iOS and app version, and an approximate region that Google derives from your IP address. Google also measures App Store purchases automatically.
- Short notes you choose to send: when you report a mistake in a card or deck, tell us which deck you would like next, or tell us why Plus isn't for you right now, the words you type (up to 100 characters) are sent with that event, together with which ready deck it is about, if any. They are not linked to you either. Please don't put personal details in them.
- Never collected: your pages, photos, cards, card text, recordings or video clips, deck or file names, your name, your email, or Apple's advertising identifier. PeekCards does not include Apple's advertising framework and never asks to track you.
Google processes this data under Google's privacy policy. On the App Store this is listed as data not linked to you, used for analytics, and no data used to track you.
What stays on your device
Everything you make is saved on your device:
- your decks, pages, covers and cards, with their photos, audio and video clips, and the ready decks you add
- your study history, exam dates, reminders and settings
- whether you have PeekCards Plus
Making cards, the suggested covers and answers, studying and the statistics all work on your device. We never receive your pages or cards. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device.
Camera, photos and microphone
PeekCards asks for camera access when you scan a page or record a video clip, and for microphone access when you record audio for a card. Photos and PDFs are opened through the system pickers, so the app sees only the items you choose. Read aloud uses your device's own voices.
iCloud sync
With PeekCards Plus you can turn on sync. Your library is then stored in your own private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit, so it appears on your iPhone and iPad. It belongs to your Apple account; we cannot see it. You can turn sync off or delete the iCloud copy in Settings at any time, and your data on the device stays.
Apple Watch
The Apple Watch app gets its cards straight from your iPhone and sends your answers back to it. Nothing goes through us.
Backups and exports
You can make a full backup or export a deck as a file and save or share it wherever you choose. The app's data can also be part of your own iCloud or computer backup if you have backups turned on. Those copies belong to you, and we cannot see them.
Purchases
PeekCards Plus is a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase handled by Apple (App Store). We never see your payment details. The app checks your purchase on your device with Apple's own tools. Apple's privacy policy covers the data it processes.
Internet use
Making cards and studying work without an internet connection. The app goes online only for:
- buying or restoring PeekCards Plus, and the App Store rating prompt (Apple)
- iCloud sync, if you turn it on (Apple, your own iCloud)
- downloading a ready deck or an update to one (from Apple's servers)
- sending the anonymous usage data described above to Google Analytics for Firebase
- links you tap, which open in your web browser
No page, card or recording is sent to us or to anyone else.
Children
PeekCards is a general-audience study app and is not directed at children under 13. The anonymous usage data described above is not linked to anyone's identity.
Your choices
The usage data we receive is anonymous and not linked to you, so we cannot find, export or delete one person's events. Deleting the app stops the collection and resets the random app instance ID. You can also delete decks and cards in the app, turn off camera or microphone access in your device settings, turn off sync or delete the iCloud copy in the app's Settings, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on the device.
